I have had the privilege and joy of attending Kostas’ and Carl’s first two workshops in Athens (Fundamentals of Realist Painting and Oil Portrait Essentials) and I was blown away by the experience. Not only did the teachers eloquently provide insights about painting that is hard to come by on your own, but they also managed to reframe and clarify things I already thought I knew, making them even more accessible.

Things like colour mixing and the principles of light and form suddenly became clearer in a way that I can directly apply into my own paintings . Their willingness to help and educate, their openness to conversation and questions and their overall one-on-one guidance where everything I needed to be introduced to the vast and sometimes chaotic world of oil painting and realism.

Having only used acrylics up to that point I can confidently say that their workshops were everything I needed to make the biggest artistic transition of my career - switching to oils. Definitely one of (if not) the best experiences I have had as an artist. I am forever grateful to Kostas and Carl for presenting me with a new perspective and elevating my understanding of painting.

So very excited to have had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of realist oil painting in Athens.I have had the exciting opportunity to attend two workshops in Athens: fundamentals and portrait. I couldn't believe that I was able to paint something so real-looking, and that doing it could be so simple and logical.

Carl and Kostas taught us thoroughly about the nature of light, the importance of values for the dimensionality of objects. Colour theory was demystified with their clear theory sessions and hands-on colour mixing practice. Theory was presented to us with clarity and then we worked on our canvases with one-on-one guidance with the teachers.

Apart from being great teachers and painters, Kostas and Carl are excellent people: polite and friendly, they make you feel at ease, and they are very willing to share their knowledge and feel proud of the success of their students

Last summer in Larnaca, I attended a workshop on realist painting techniques, and it was an absolute goldmine of knowledge. As a draftsman accustomed to acrylics, this advanced flower workshop opened new artistic horizons for me.

The theory was explained in a perfectly clear and organised way, which allowed me to understand despite my difficulty with the English language. Through the study of light & form, I began to truly understand the behaviour of light and reinforced my belief in the importance of looking and observing attentively, to truly see. Most striking was finally discovering a precise method for colour matching – in stark contrast to my previous experience with primary colour mixing.

While time constraints may limit my immediate application of these methods, the workshop achieved something remarkable: it gave me the confidence to finally embrace oil painting. Thank you very much!

Thank you for two wonderful workshops: Portrait Painting (Athens) and Flower Painting (Montblanc).

Both workshops were organised in great locations. They were very well structured and divided in two parts: theory and practice.

Carl's comprehensive theoretical presentations illuminated how light interacts with form - a crucial element in all painting. Though the concepts were sometimes challenging, his boundless knowledge and careful guidance ensured every participant could grasp and follow along.

Kostas's unmatched expertise in colour theory forms the fundamental basis for becoming the painters we aspire to be, particularly in understanding the intricate skill of mixing colours effectively. Naturally, this complex knowledge cannot be fully absorbed in one session - the color theory must be repeatedly studied and practiced until it translates into satisfying results.

The practical part was very well organised too. Kostas and Carl provided quality paints that allowed us to trial and learn much about selecting paints in the future. Thank you for that. The practical sessions focussed heavily on understanding how we can use the theoretical knowledge in practical ways in our paintings. Both instructors supported each participant tirelessly with their skill, expertise and knowledge throughout.

I would warmly recommend Kostas and Carls courses for painters at all levels of skill. It's a must and guaranteed to take your painting skills to a higher level(providing you approach it with focus and commitment from your side).
