A 3-day flower painting workshop with advanced colour theory

This flower painting workshop is tailored for both absolute beginners and intermediate artists seeking to build a strong theoretical and practical foundation in their botanical art practice.

In this workshop, you will explore:

• Drawing Essentials: Fundamental drawing strategies that will enable you to accurately draw even the most complex subjects

• Constructing a Painting: A Step-by-step approach to making an oil painting from start to finish, including how to mix and apply oil paint

• Tonal Values: How to group and arrange tonal values to create and control the illusion of three dimensional form in your work

• Light and Form: Discover how light interacts with delicate petals and foliage, and how to group tonal values to create the illusion of transparency and three-dimensionality in your floral subjects.

• Advanced colour theory: Gain the skills to mix natural flower hues with accuracy, from subtle pastels to vivid blooms, and learn how to capture the nuanced variations within each petal.

Each workshop day will commence with a theoretical lesson aimed at introducing essential concepts and techniques. This will be complemented by hands-on work on a multi-day project, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge. We will be painting from life, working with individual flowers as well as arrangements.
